Set in 100 acres of meadows and woods, this elegant Château less than 2 hours South West of Paris, has been in the same family for six centuries. Chateau de La Barre has its own chapel, flower gardens, fountains, pond and is surrounded by 16th century dry moat fortifications,. The Comte and Comtesse, Guy and Marnie de Vanssay will immediately make you feel at home as you join them for drinks in the 18th century Grand Salon with boiseries and ornate chandeliers. Candlelit dinner is served three nights a week in the Grand Salle à Manger with its massive burnished dresser and exquisite china collection.
The five magnificent and luxurious en suite guest rooms are gilded with sumptuous fabrics and fine antiques, without compromising on contemporary comforts! Every heirloom tells story, which your hosts will be happy to share.
During the day, simply enjoy relaxed, aristocratic living, or else visit the picturesque villages with their manor houses and XIIth century romanesque churches repleat with frescoes, vineyards or further afield, the famed Loire valley castles. Superb riding and golf in the vicinity.

How to go there:

From Paris, follow the motorway A11 Bordeaux/Nantes until the toll (about 30 minutes after leaving Paris) then bear right in direction of Chartres/Le Mans. Take ‘La Ferte Bernard' exit from the motorway before reaching Le Mans. Turn left to follow the D1 through Lamnay, Vibraye and Berfay. Turn right into the drive of Chateau de La Barre, 5.5km after Befray (and 2km before St. Calais). Do not turn down towards the village of Conflans. Chateau de La Barre is located off the D1 between both roads leading down to Conflans.
Coming from Calais via Rouen, take the A28 to Le Mans and exit after Le Mans (East), bearing right on the motorway in direction of Orleans/Tours, but taking the immediate exit (about 2 km after the motorway bears off towards Tours) indicated St Calais. Then follow N157 for thirty minutes to St Calais. In St. Calais, turn left at the first red light, left at the second red light, then straight at the third red light, following the direction to the A11 and La Ferté on the D1. The drive down to Chateau de La Barre will be about 2 km further, to your left, off the D1, after the first turn down towards Conflans, which you must not follow. Chateau de La Barre is located off the D1 between both roads leading down to Conflans.
