Cities and villages
"De Hoge Peel " is situated on the border of the villages Nederweert and Heythuysen, about 6 km from the center. At a distance of about 15 minutes drive, you find Weert , Roermond , and the pittoresque white little town Thorn . Museums,theatres and many restaurants will help you to make your stay an event. In the Burgundian cultural city of Maastricht and the modern Eindhoven , one finds all pleasures of the big city. It takes about half an hour by car to get there.
Walking:
The immediate surroundings are excellent walking areas. Marijke and Jan mapped e few hikes for the lazy walker as well as for the more fanatic hikers.
National park "De Grote Peel", at a distance of about 4 km is a unique walking area with excellent birdwatching facilities.
Bicycling:
At 100m distance from "De Hoge Peel" we find connecting point # 14 of the bicycle route throughout Limburg and Belgium. One can cycle from one point to another and thus determine the route of preference. At each connecting point is a map displaying all the available routes.
The municipality of Heythuysen has organized a bicycle route along field crosses,chapels and other ornaments in their area.
Riding
A Riding route is organized in the immediate surroundings passing three maneges and other resting facilities. The route passess at 100 m from "De Hoge Peel.
Directions:
From Eindhoven or Maastricht ( highway A2)
Exit Nederweert direction Venlo. After about 1,5 km at the first roundabout turn right to Nederweert Eind and after about 200m turn left into the "Kruisstraat" .Follow this road about 6 km until de Kruisstraat changes into "de Hollander" . There you see the sign of "De Hoge Peel"at your right
From Nijmegen venlo via de A73
You leave the A73 to the A 67 in the direction of Eindhoven.
Leave the A67 at exit 38 "Helden" direction Helden. After about 150 m turn right at the traffic lights direction Weert. At the first roundabout turn right and go strait through at the next.At the next roundabout turn left in the direction of Roggel. About 1 km after passing the village Heibloem you see a sign "Int vergulde Hirt". turn right. After about two km you will find the sign of "De Hoge Peel"on your left.
From Roermond:
Follow the signs from Roermond via Heythuysen through Roggel and to Heibloen. About 4 km after passing Roggel and before Heibloem you find a sign"of the galery "Int Vergulde Hirt".
Follw that sign and turn left. After about two km following that road you will see the sign "De Hoge Peel"on your left.
