Built in 1900, the Amsterdam American Hotel is Amsterdam's most famous art nouveau hotel, directly located on the lively Leidseplein.
From its classic exterior with tower to stained glass windows and wall paintings inside, art nouveau architectural and decorative features can be found even in its rooms. The 174 rooms were renovated in 2001 to suit the modern traveller's needs. The Grand Café America serves breakfast and dinner under its arched roof decorated with Tiffany lamps. The Café extends onto the Leidseplein in summer times. The American Hotel offers a historic discovery, combined with the comfort of modern guest room amenities, directly in the city centre. The 4-star Amsterdam American Hotel is situated right on the lively Leidseplein, it has its own boat landing and features many rooms with views of the canal or the Leidseplein Square. Built in 1900 original Art Nouveau architectural style, its decorative features can be found in the cafe, public areas and some of the 174 guest rooms. The Grand Café American opens its doors at 07:00 for breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake, and dinner can be enjoyed in a classical setting under Tiffany lamps and original wall paintings featuring scenes from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". On Sunday, the lively Jazz Brunch is offered. High Tea parties can be enjoyed Mondays to Saturdays between 14:00 and 17:00. The Bar American offer award winning cocktails or the famous "biertje" with Dutch snacks. Only a few steps away are the Leidsestraat shopping street, bars, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, the casino and the Hard Rock Café. To reach the Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum or the PC Hoofdstraat or the Vondelpark, a 5 minute stroll is all it takes. Please note that the price does not include 5% city tax.
