Situated in a green and fertile orange valley, 6 kilometres outside Silves, Duas Quintas is the quintessential Algarvian country house. The property was professionally renovated in 2006 and combines a unique blend of traditional features and modern comfort.
All rooms have their own private entrance, with patio area and seating outside. There are high wooden ceilings, original stone walls, full length shutters and double glazing. Each of the large double bedrooms has been individually decorated, with double or twin beds, and easy chairs or sofas for extra comfort. All rooms are big enough to allow an additional bed if required. 1 twin bedroom has been prepared for guests with limited mobility. The en suite bathrooms are fully tiled. All have large showers and abundant hot water. There are tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers and satellite TV. There is free internet access in most bedrooms and all communal areas. Air conditioning is available at a daily rate in all rooms. A large fridge is provided for guest use.
There is ample parking and airport transfers can be arranged on request.
In our 15 acres of private grounds, guests can relax by the pool or explore their surroundings. Once a thriving fruit farm, Duas Quintas has over 1500 orange trees as well as plum, lemon, olive and fig trees. It is a bird lover’s paradise with storks, hoopoes, swallows and buzzards. Wildflowers abound in the springtime. Close to the house, the gardens have been developed, with areas for sitting and relaxing. A barbecue area, opposite the pool, allows you to cook your own lunch or evening meal.
One of the main features of the grounds is the 12m x 6m illuminated pool. The size and shape of it gives you the option of having a real swim or simply cooling down and relaxing. You can sunbathe on the terrace or amongst the orange trees with a much appreciated breeze usually blowing through the summer afternoons. Take a book from our guest library and stay with us for the day. The honesty bar is only a few steps away, everything you need to truly chill out!
Children are very welcome but small children will need parental supervision as the grounds are sprawling and could be dangerous for unsupervised children. On the other hand, this is a paradise for families to explore and play in together. If you want a night out on your own while staying with us, we can arrange an English speaking babysitter -talk to us for details.

Meals:
At Duas Quintas we believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Where possible local, fresh produce is used. Start your meal with a choice of cereals, yogurt or fresh fruit. Every day Mary prepares a simple but different cooked dish. Complete your meal with fresh bread, homemade preserves, local cheeses and homemade scones or cake. Fresh orange juice from our own trees is available most of the year.
Theer are excellent restaurants in nearby Silves and our two local cafes provide good lunch time and evening food.
How to go there:
Directions from Faro Airport
On leaving Faro airport, bear right at the roundabout following the signs to Faro and then to the A22 (or IP1) motorway.
After 3 kilometres, follow the signs to the motorway to Lisbon (Lisboa), Portimão and Loulé. This takes you on to the main N125 heading north, away from Faro
After a further 4.5 kilometres get into the left-hand lane in order to bear left, continuing to follow the signs to Loule and the A22/IP1.
After a further 3.5 kilometres, join the A22 motorway. Follow the signs to Lisbon, Portimão and Albufeira. Continue until you see the turn for Silves. Follow this road for about five kilometres. You will descend towards the town with the town on your left. Turn left at the bottom of the hill over the bridge. Get in the right-hand lane at the traffic lights. Turn right in the direction of Messines, passing Lidol on your left. Continue straight through the next roundabout and over a narrow bridge. About five kilometres outside Silves you will see a left hand turn marked Pedreira. Ignore this but take the very next left turn, marked Quinta do Rio – a smaller blue and white sign. This is a dangerous crossing as you are on a bend and cannot see cars coming in the other direction. Signal well before you reach this turn! Continue down this road, passing a small garage (Oficina) on your left until you reach a T junction (about 950 meters). Don’t worry that the road seems to go to a single track for a short distance. The house is straight in front of you as you reach the T junction.
