The Town
Vejer has Moorish origins.
The Catholic Church is supposed to have been built on the site of the Arab mosque and the castle boasts a fine example of a Moorish horseshoe arch.
The Christian reconquest of 1250 bequeathed high stone walls, battlements and town’s once gated arches. Traditionally Spanish, Vejer is a place where time is measured differently and is a great base for touring.
Shopping
The tradition of artisan / shop remains alive. Age-old practices like basket making and the craft of hand made wooden furniture can still be seen. A small band of modern crafts people have also begun to set up shop.
Eating and Drinking
Vejer has some good traditional restaurants serving solid local fare without fuss, as well as a few more stylish establishments. There are also a few good café / bars where you can enjoy convivial conversation.
